Discrimination
Unfair treatment based on characteristics like disability, involving harassment, insults, or prejudice.
Neglect and Acts of Omission
Ignoring someone’s care needs or withholding essentials like food, medication, warmth, or support.

What To Do
If you suspect abuse, feel unsafe, or are worried about a neighbor, please take the following steps:
Call Emergency Services First:
If you or someone else is in immediate danger, dial 999 straight away to contact the police or ambulance.
Speak Up Immediately:
If it is not an emergency but you are concerned, tell a trusted staff member, your Local Housing Officer, or call our team at 0191 587 0848.
Do Not Confront the Abuser:
For your own safety, avoid confronting the person causing harm. Leave the investigation and intervention to the professionals.
Keep a Record:
If it is safe to do so, make brief notes of what happened, including dates, times, and any details you can remember.
Reach Out to Local Authorities:
You can also directly contact the local council’s safeguarding team to report your concerns.
